PDI Intelligence
Freight market readings for carriers and brokers, built from free public data.
PDI Intelligence puts public market, lane and facility information in one place. Every reading shows how much data stands behind it, and it says Not enough data when the sample is thin.
What Intelligence shows
- Market readings
- Demand, sample size and confidence for each market, so you can tell a firm reading from a thin one.
- Lane readings
- The market range and the per mile range for a lane, with the evidence behind it.
- 30-day rate comparison
- How a lane's per mile range today compares with 30 days ago, and a chart of the range over time on higher plans.
- Freight radar and facility map
- Public facility records on a map, with filters for trailer type, state and, on higher plans, product and industry.
- Lane opportunity
- Annual public freight flow context for a lane. It is context for planning, not a load offer.
- Capacity
- Capacity readings by market, placed next to demand, so you can see where trucks are tight or loose.
- Alerts
- Rules that notify you when a market or a public record changes, within the limit of your plan.
How carriers and brokers use it
Carriers
- Check the market and per mile range for a lane before you plan a load.
- Use the facility map to see public facilities near your routes and filter by trailer type.
- Compare a lane with its reading from 30 days ago.
- On higher plans, see profitability after fuel and your own operating costs, reload context and capacity by market.
- Set alerts on the markets you run.
Brokers
- Use aggregate market ranges to check a quote. No individual carrier rates are shown.
- Use the freight radar and facility map to find public facilities and new sites such as expansions.
- Save the territories you cover and see public records inside them (Pro and above).
- Review capacity and Market Confidence for the lanes you quote.
- Set alerts on markets and public records.
Where the data comes from
Intelligence is built from free public sources, not from private offers or other customers' data. Among the sources are:
- U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) for weekly diesel prices
- Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for trucking price indexes and employment
- U.S. Census Bureau for business, retail and shipment statistics
- U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for grain, livestock and cold storage freight indicators
- Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for border crossings and wait times
Each reading shows its source and when it was last refreshed. Public data has gaps, so a reading with too little behind it says Not enough data instead of showing a number.
